December 15-19

This week we found out that Drew was the one who took the rock. Except Mr.Finley just found out that he just "misplaced" it. So ealier this week we found out that some differences between RNA and DNA. We found out that has a single strand helix instead of a double. That RNA unlike DNA has a single base and I think the base is called Uracil not thymine. Also the R stands for ribose like the D in DNA stands for Dioxyribose. We also watched a movie on Monday and Tuesday about genetics. We watched about the history of it and the many scientists that changed the way we look at science. On Wendsday we discussed reasoning and and explainations and how they are one the most important things to understand. This was the day that we examined the DNA tests. We made an explainations using the methods we talked about in class. On Thursday we had a substitute and we took notes from the book, but I'd much rather have a class discussion and take notes than have a limited time to read a book. We also did questions that I'm pretty sure that only Mickey finished it. On Friday we went over the perdictions that we did for homework. I think that we did all of this so that we could link DNA to perdictions and chamical reactions like fermentation and photosynthesis which we wrote about on Thursday.

December 8-12

This week we found out that someone stole Fins' rock!(GASP!) We were all assigned a suspect. My table's suspect was Mickey. We learned how to do a DNA test. We swabbed his mouth and put it in a glass tube along with lysis and some juice. Then we added 2 ml of alchohal. We shook it and it had two layers and in the middle was his DNA. Drew's looked like it was blue. I assume that that is because either he swabbed really long, which is true or he is the one who stole the rock. We also learned that lipids were fatty acids and that proteays are stuff that destroy proteins.

Week of December 1-5

This week we reviewed the parts of a cell. We also talked about the functions of the parts of a cell. Today we went into what DNA is. We are learning this so that when we look under amicroscope we can understand it better.
